The Day that Was

They seized the jolly the night before the ride,

Whether or not that was a good idea would be taken in hindsight.

The night started early beside the bar & fire,

The raffles got flowing, as the total got higher.

Jim & the ladies were run off their feet, as Kelly sat pondering could this really be.

Two months of planning has seen the pub in pink,

So let’s get on with the next day, how big do you think.

As the sun peaked across the horizon heads began to rise,

Remembrance from the Jolly could be seen in the tired & weary eyes.

The eggs began to sizzle; the bacon began to fry.

The riders come from near and far to participle in the ride.

The streets were lined with people waving and wishing them luck,

The sounds of the bagpipes signalled the start as they raised the charities a buck.

Anticipation began to mount as realisations settle down,

100kms of hard yakka, strength would need to be found.

They know what there are riding for they never questioned why,

The charities would say thanks for doing this ride.

As the dunny took the lead, with two riders close behind,

The rest were court in the head wind, which left them stamina to find.

The first ten K’s were fine; with riders were having a chat,

After about 30ks we had lost half the pack.

The bus moved them up, with the 6 wheeler close behind,

They dropped them ahead of the riders for a breather & to unwind.

The property owners waved as the riders passed their gates,

Astonished that the riders were still going along this terrible straight.

Burren Burren was the next stop, half way they had come

The stop was met with locals who had lite a fire under the mighty gum.

The fire thawed their bones as talked of their feat

Only 45k’s to go before they hit the Colly streets.

The longest time had passed when it was time to go once more

Many a riders mounted their bikes with aliments extremely sore.

103 riders took to this mighty dusty road

As Collarenebri lay in their sights, many a friendship were sowed.

The streets were lined with people waiting for a glimpse,

The rider have come so far, done so well in their colour pink.

The crowd began to grow on the corner of the pub

Then Colin and his bagpipes can be heard as the riders round the final bend,

All the hard work for this great event is nearing an end.

With the auction and quick shear finished and pack up near complete

All the hard work done for the year, now its time to celebrate this almighty feat.

Whether it be a Tooheys, a beam or a Bundy Rum,

It’s time to come together and have some well deserved fun.
